From Foster Parents:
Otis is a very happy, tail wagging, sweet, smart and loving boy, who will be your shadow. He loves to sleep in bed with you and will cuddle until he gets hot. He also likes to sleep on a couch. He loves to lick both humans and our dogs faces.
He has put his paws on the counter, not to get to food (counter surf), but to reach us for attention. He does jump on people, either while standing or even when sitting, to get your attention. He is very active, almost to the point of being a bit hyper, and still has major puppy brain. He would be a good fit for agility type classes (he’s food motivated), or for someone who's a runner/jogger/walker.
Due to his energy level, we don’t think he would be a good candidate for invisible fencing, but would require a physical fence. No young kids living in the home, as his exuberance will be too much and he could unintentionally hurt them.
He's very playful, loves toys, and he will play fetch with you until your arm drops off from fatigue. He can be mouthy when playing with his toys, he's usually gentle, but if he's too excited, he can mouth a little too hard, and he loves to play tug-o-war. He can be a little relentless when he wants to play, whether it's with people or other dogs. He gets over-stimulated at play some times, and you have to stop what you are doing (for example, playing fetch), to get him to calm down. He is very sensitive and if you yell at him, he may run, hide and start shaking out of fear.
Our female Collie (and another male Collie) have corrected him when he gets to be too much, and he's just starting to get what they are trying to teach him. Other than that, he plays well with them. He was an only dog in his previous home. He’s superfast when doing Zoomies in the yard (which is where we send him when he starts to get them in the house).
He talks/barks for attention sometimes. He will sit by the back door to go out and will bark when he’s ready to come back in. He is a "watch" dog, and will look out the window and bark, as well as bark when he's patrolling the back yard. He's learning self-regulation about playing by himself, and not losing his mind when he looks out the window and sees something to bark at, but sometimes he needs a reminder to stop.
He can go down our carpeted basement steps with no issues, which he did after being with us for about 2 weeks. He did pee the first time he went down there (we don’t let our dogs go down there). But he has never had an accident in our house other than that. We have left him alone in our house for a few hours at a time with no issues.
He really isn't interested in our pet parrots, but they are in their own room with a doggy gate up. He rides in the car fine, but due to his energy level, we use a harness on him when he leaves the house, for better control.
No food aggression when he eats with our dogs, but he usually will wait until they finish eating, then he scarfs his food, so we feed him using a slow feeder bowl. He does beg (as do our dogs) for people food.
From Previous Owner:
Good with kids (lived with a Tween and a Teen). Good with dogs and cats (although he chases the cats in play).
He went through dog training in 2024 and was taught: wait, off, sit, lay down, stay, leave it, go, drop it.
He was left no longer than 6 hours in the house alone, and has never been put in a kennel/crate. He will lean or lay on you, and loves ice cubes. Loves to be outside with you while doing yard work or shoveling snow for hours on end. Loves to ride in the car, and has gone to the U.P. without issue. Loves the beach, water and going for walks.
